- Dear Friends of Kapawi Ecolodge:
On Monday September 20, 2010 at the Museum of Natural History in New York, the UN held the Equator Initiative Awards Ceremony for the 25 most outstanding projects in the world that contribute to environmental conservation and community development. In this event, Kapawi Ecolodge was part of this select group, and was also awarded a special recognition for being placed as one of the top five projects worldwide.
At Kapawi Lodge, we feel privileged to have received this honor. We welcome the recognition of teamwork of a company that is 100% Achuar Ecuadorian.
We share our joy with you and express our commitment to work toward continuous improvement.
- The Achuar have purchased a new twin-engine Islander airplane, which is currently being used to transport guests in and out of Kapawi, improving greatly the logistical operation.
- New kayaks have arrived at the lodge, offering many new ways to enjoy the wonderful rivers, lagoons and streams around Kapawi.
- We are currently working on remodeling the guest rooms of the lodge, pacing the work so as not to disturb the atmosphere and comfort of our guests while aiming to complete the remodeling in the early part of 2010.
- The transfer of Kapawi Ecolodge and Reserve to the Achuar Nation took place in January 2008 and now, following a year and one-half transition period, the Achuar are full owners and managers of the Ecolodge.
