THE ACHUAR VISITORS
BEHAVIOR REQUEST
The Achaur people request that you observe the following when visiting their territory:

- Though Achuar culture and traditions may appear very different to your own. Please respect and learn about our extraordinary culture.
- Do not take photographs in the Achuar communities until your guide asks for and receives permission.
- We are very happy to sell you our beautiful handicrafts, all the raw materials for out products come from the jungle. We have fixed prices, which are similar in every community.
- Please don’t buy any handicrafts made of feathers, animal skins or insects.
- Please don’t give money, presents or sweets to local children. If you have any educational materials such as pens, notebooks, colored pencils or other gifts, please give them to the hotel manager for distribution.
- Please do not enter an Achuar house without invitation.
- If you are a man please never look an Achuar woman directly in the face. We are very jealous.
- Our houses are divided into two parts, the public and the private – please do not enter the ekent or female, private part of the house, which is directly behind where your host will sit to greet you.
- We will always offer you Chicha, the manioc beer. This drink is sacred to us, we consider it insulting for you not to try a little, you may find you rather like it.
- Please never go walking alone; your chances of getting lost are high. You may however, walk alone on the self guided trail at the lodge.
- Please do not leave trash in any part of the forest.
- The harvesting of species animals and vegetables is prohibited. We defend the intellectual property of the resources of our forest.
- Please do not feed the wild animals.
